The federal government has made significant assistance available to both businesses and individuals impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is what that assistance may look like to real estate agents and brokerages.
Independent contractors
The CERB is a taxable benefit that will provide $2,000 per month, for up to four months, to wage earners, contract workers, and self-employed individuals who have lost their income as a result of the pandemic.
For small businesses
The Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy will provide a subsidy of 75% to eligible small businesses that see their revenue drop by 30% in March, April, or May, when compared to the year before. This could help brokerages with staff and administrators who are employees.
